Description
Mars Base puts you in the role of a lucky settler selected to travel to Mars and help build a colony. The mission is an experiment: can a group of people survive on a distant planet? To answer that, the settlement must sustain itself, relying on renewable energy for power and on crops grown locally for food. Your job is to expand the outpost so the experiment succeeds and humanity's long-held dream of life on Mars looks achievable, even apple trees bearing fruit. The barren wasteland must gradually be transformed into blossoming gardens and fields of corn. Beyond daily survival, you will also venture out of the safe zone to gather rare minerals and resources, which unlock new space technologies and make life easier for the colonists.
In Mars Base, every stage of farming is done by hand. You prepare the soil, fertilize it, plant seeds and then harvest the crops. With the produce you gather, you can cook meals that grant temporary boosts. Once you have settled in for a while, your character can descend into underground dungeons and uncover valuable treasures. Still, the core focus is on stabilizing the town and making sure residents have what they need, including energy, food and resources. Infrastructure matters too, since it raises the quality of life, encourages a higher birth rate and helps the colony grow. The bigger the population, the more opportunities open up for the player. Mars weather is fairly monotonous, but frequent sandstorms will force you to take cover in shelters to avoid accidents.
