Hitman GO brings the Hitman series into the world of turn-based puzzles. Every level unfolds on a grid-style board made of connected nodes and lines. On each turn, the player or the opposition moves along those lines from one node to another. You take control of the main character, Agent 47, and plan his route across the board.

On touchscreen devices, you guide Agent 47 during your turn by swiping in the direction you want him to go. The PC "Definitive Edition" swaps the swipe controls for a click, hold, and drag system that is played with a mouse. Once your turn ends, every enemy on the board moves at the same time. To advance through the levels, you need to complete several objectives, such as reaching the final node or taking out a particular target. Stepping onto a target's node eliminates them, but the same applies to you if an enemy reaches your node first.

As you move forward, the levels grow harder and introduce new mechanics and tougher foes. Each enemy type is color-coded, so you can quickly learn how it moves. Some enemies follow a fixed patrol route, while others stay in place or circle a single node. In later stages, you might have to pick up keys scattered around the board to unlock doors standing between you and the level goal. On your turn, you can use trapdoors to travel between separate sections of the board. Certain nodes with potted plants offer cover, letting you remain unseen. You can also find and equip colored disguises that help you blend in with enemies of the matching color. Throwable items can be used to distract and confuse opponents, and firearms appear in several stages, letting you take out distant enemies or clear obstacles.
