Background

In Zombies.io, you become a mechanical superhero with special combat abilities, equipped with a set of heavily armed mechanical arms built to wage war against endless hordes of zombies.

In this pixel art roguelike world, your homeland faces a serious threat from zombies of unknown origin. They gather in ever-growing herds, becoming more savage with each passing day. They spread across the land, invading territory and wiping out its inhabitants, with one goal in mind: devouring all of humanity and claiming the Earth as their own.

When hope seems lost, only one thing can rekindle people's belief: you, along with the remarkable, advanced technology your land has developed. Combine these two forces, and a wild battle between a lone hero, cutting-edge technology, and hordes of zombies is about to begin.

A roguelike zombie survival game with gameplay unlike any other

Unlike any zombie shooter you've played before, Zombies.io uses a top-down perspective and borrows the style of classic arcade spaceship shooters. Your tiny hero stands at the center, surrounded by countless crazed monster zombies charging in from every direction.

Spin your mechanical arm wildly and fire bullets in all directions. Every zombie you take down flashes and displays its score. Playing this way feels very much like an old-school arcade space shooter.

Yet the roguelike survival elements, where every death sends you back to the very beginning, give it a distinctly different feel. On top of that, the ability to upgrade, strengthen, and unlock weapons for your character draws from modern games. In short, Zombies.io blends elements of the past and the present into one experience.

Gameplay

Getting started with Zombies.io is simple. At the beginning of the game, you pick your favorite hero from the available options, select your weapon, choose a random skill, and jump straight into battle.

The key to winning these endless fights lies in finding your position and a strategy for breaking through the enemy's encirclement. If you find yourself caught in the middle of a siege, take a close look at where the enemy ring is weakest in terms of zombie type and quantity, then aim straight for that spot to carve out an escape route.

That said, when you're wielding a mechanical arm with extremely powerful firepower capable of wiping out multiple enemies at once, your best bet is to attack the densest clusters of zombies to break the encirclement quickly.

Depending on the time, the layout of the game screen, and the weapon you're holding, your attack strategy will change completely.

Every zombie you defeat also gives you more chances to grow stronger. You can unlock epic armor types, boost your character's stamina, increase your firepower, upgrade your mechanical arms, and unlock all kinds of new advanced arm technologies. With these options, the hordes of zombies may struggle to threaten you, and the hope of restoring lasting peace to the land becomes entirely within reach.

Graphics and sound

Beyond the gameplay that blends modern arcade and role-playing elements, the graphics and sound are a major reason Zombies.io stands out.

You may never have witnessed a zombie battlefield as wild, stormy, and intense as this one. The screen flashes nonstop, loud sounds ring out from every corner, fallen enemies lie scattered before vanishing in an instant, and each kill rewards your character with impressive upgrades. The sheer excitement is hard to match.

Heroes in Zombies.io are also designed very well. Although your character is small, and the zombies are tiny as well, the armor and the massive mechanical arms make you look dignified, majestic, and powerful. In my opinion, the game's color palette strikes a good balance, neither too gloomy nor too bright, and it all fits together dramatically, which suits a post-apocalyptic setting perfectly.
