Transform your Android phone or tablet into an FTP server. The WiFi Pro FTP Server app lets you run an FTP server on your device, so you can transfer files, photos, movies, songs and other content to and from your Android using an FTP client like FileZilla.

Introduction

If your Android device is already rooted, you can turn it into a File Transfer Protocol server. Thanks to modern technology, you can run a full FTP server straight from your pocket. FileZilla is a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client that lets you move media back and forth between your computer and your Android device, and this setup supports both directions. With it, you can send files in many formats, including music and movies.

You can change the FTP server's port number to adjust how the server behaves for your needs. File Transfer Protocol (FTP) works with Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption (FTPS). Create a hidden login that other users cannot see, set up a new home directory (mount point), and define a user ID and password for signing in to your device. For backups and transfers, avoid USB connections and wireless networks where possible, as these are not recommended. Connecting over WLAN or through a WLAN hotspot works without issues (hotspot mode).

Keep in mind that FTPS and SFTP are not the same thing. They are two separate protocols, and this distinction is important. SFTP support is expected to be available to users in the near future. Port 21 will not work unless the device is rooted and you bind to a lower-numbered port, so use a port number above 1024. You can change the default port from the settings menu. It is currently set to 2221. Most websites do not enable anonymous access by default because of potential security risks. The Control Panel must be used for the server to function properly.
