40K is dystopian, dark, and heavy, so I went in expecting a grim experience and was surprised by how exhilarating it turned out to be. The flick-to-move controls feel great, and that comfort reminds me of “Fire Emblem Heroes.” Even better are the battle effects. It feels like playing a shooter.

Part of what makes battles so satisfying is the flashy attack effects. The sound effects are another highlight. Those alone are impressive, but the flick-to-attack controls make it feel as though you are attacking personally. Instead of simply moving a unit, you feel like you are firing the gun yourself, a sensation that is rare in simulation games.

The unit “Bellator” also has a standout skill, “Death from the Sky,” which stands out as the most thrilling effect. Several allied units called Inceptors drop from the sky and focus their fire on enemy units! It feels like a special move in a fighting game.

STRATEGY MATTERS TOO! THE CHALLENGING RUSH MODE IS GREAT FUN

It is wonderful that, amid all the excitement, the game does not lose the real appeal of the analog wargame “Warhammer.” Strategy and tactics remain the true pleasure. Positioning is crucial, since high ground offers clear advantages, and mechanics such as setting the map ablaze to deal continuous damage add depth. The story mode is relatively approachable, and even with a push the difficulty stays manageable. The rush mode, however, which withstands multiple waves, is genuinely demanding. Without careful planning, surviving to the end is tough. If you want real strategy and tactics, give rush mode a try.
