Become the last survivor in a massive city, scavenge for food and resources, and make your way to a safe zone.
Gameplay
DYSMANTLE is a single-player survival game with a rather unusual play style. The premise follows a familiar path: the world has ended, people are turning into zombies, and you are a brave warrior who has sealed yourself inside a bunker stocked with food and water. After a year underground, however, your supplies run out, and you are forced to climb to the surface and look for a new place to survive. The storyline will guide you through every location, though the world is largely open, so you are free to explore wherever you like.
The movement restrictions are built into the game in an enjoyable way. In the opening area, for example, you have to smash furniture that blocks the way forward, but your crowbar doesn't deal enough damage to do it. By breaking a few objects in the starting zone and upgrading your crowbar at a campfire, you can move on. This is the structure of the entire game: the farther you travel, the rarer the loot becomes, and stronger enemies drop better rewards.
Game Features
Items can be upgraded as well, though each new level calls for new materials, and you'll need plenty of them. The crowbar gains damage with each upgrade, while the backpack gains more slots.
Next up is a handy feature: your backpack can only hold so much, but you can stash extra items in a special storage box with virtually unlimited space. These boxes are typically placed beside campfires, which double as checkpoints where you can craft and upgrade gear.
Crafting works in a similar way. Open the recipe tree, pick the item you want to learn, and the game will use the resources you supply to build it. Afterwards, you can upgrade it further. Keep in mind that to unlock certain items, you'll need to gather resources and also raise your hero's level.
Experience points come from defeating zombies, finishing quests, and depositing resources into the storage box. Gathering materials is also a lot of fun, since most objects in the game can be destroyed, and that's how you'll collect what you need. Need leaves? Cut down some grass! Short on iron?
