Eremite doesn't demand much skill to reveal its full strength, so it's the class we recommend for newcomers.
- Starfall (Meteor): Starfall fights from range with guns, offering high mobility and sustained damage over time. Its defense is very low, though, and it can be taken down quickly if enemies land heavy hits. Players of this class need solid hit-and-run skills, attacking and dodging, to make the biggest impact.
- Virtuoso (Music Mage): Virtuoso attacks from a distance using musical instruments. It delivers strong attack power, armor penetration, and plenty of special effects. In exchange, its defense is very weak and it lacks Starfall's mobility, so it depends heavily on teammates. When you're fighting alone for much of the game, Virtuoso will be harder to play than the other classes.
The Combat Mechanics of The Ninth Relic
Every character in The Ninth Relic has a basic attack and four skills. Only two skills are unlocked at the start, and you'll need to reach certain levels to unlock the other two. The skills are highly powerful and have very short cooldowns, and several of them cover a wide area, giving you a real edge in battle.
The game also includes a transformation mechanic for every character. Press the transform button above your fourth skill button to become a legendary version of your character. Transformation changes all your skills, greatly boosts attack and defense, and widens your attack range considerably. The cooldown is very long, though, more than 100 seconds, so plan carefully before you transform.
Character Design Style
Characters are the figures you control directly and invest time and effort into developing, so their appearance is crucial for winning over and keeping players. The Ninth Relic does a strong job with character visuals, and its eye-catching 3D manhua art style makes the cast look very attractive.
The Ninth Relic leans on classic body proportions for its characters. Both female and male characters are depicted with tall, well-balanced figures. From the developer's side, good proportions make animation easier to produce. From the player's side, handsome and beautiful characters with tall, striking silhouettes add a great deal of motivation to the experience.
How Are the Costumes Designed?
Consistent with the game's overall look, the costumes and accessories draw on ancient Chinese fashion. Female characters often wear long, flowing dresses paired with shorts, with fabric straps running over the shirt. Male outfits vary more by class, with the Caliburn and Eremite classes wearing cloth shirts.
The costumes also reflect each class's fighting style. Caliburn (Swordsman) and Virtuoso (Musician) wear soft, somewhat ornate outfits that suit their more technical playstyles. The Eremite (Lone Wolf) class sports flamboyant costumes that fit its tank and frontline role well.
The Starfall class stands out the most. Its characters skip ancient garments and wear fitted Western-style clothing, mainly in black. This unconventional look suits the gun-based combat style and sits outside the ancient-costume theme that defines the rest of The Ninth Relic.
