During a fight, soul bits, also known as hand cards, can be drawn from gear (also called equipment) and used as actions. Players decide which combinations of primary weapon, subweapon, armor, and accessories will make up their Strategy (deck).

During a fight, only one soul bit can be chosen on the first turn, but the number that can be selected at once can increase depending on the opponent's weaknesses, guarding, dodging, buffing, debuffing, and various other situations. The Arts ability activates when a specific combination of soul bits, or cards currently in hand, is chosen at the same moment.
