Sorry! World is a board strategy game developed and published by Gameberry Labs for mobile platforms. It is based on the well-known board game Sorry!.
About Sorry! World
Gameplay
Sorry! World simplifies and reshapes several parts of the original Sorry! game. Instead of supporting up to four players, Sorry! World – Board Game is limited to two. Also, each player draws just one card per turn. The original game lets players collect many cards at the start and use them to act on each turn, but here the flow is much more streamlined.
On every turn, a player draws a card and advances a piece clockwise around the board. When a minus card is drawn, the player must move a piece backward, counterclockwise. Once a piece reaches its destination, it turns into the destination square and can no longer continue around the circuit. A piece can enter the destination square only if its remaining moves exactly match its distance from that square.
Moving a piece
You may move any piece on the board, provided its destination matches the value of the card you drew. If at least one piece has a legal move, you are required to make one. When no piece can move according to the card's value, Sorry! World – Board Game automatically skips your turn.
Kicking and getting kicked
This is one of the most exciting features of Sorry! World – Board Game, just as in the original Sorry! game. If a piece's destination, based on its card value, lands on a square occupied by an opponent's piece, that piece gets knocked off and your piece takes its place. The knocked-off piece goes straight back to the starting circle.
Sorry! World – Board Game also includes a slider mechanic that can be used to kick opponent pieces, which is explained below.
Overall board layout
The board in Sorry! World – Board Game is a square ring of 40 spaces, typically colored white. Inside the square formed by these white spaces lie the starting circle, the finish circle with the finish square, and the original deck. Above the white spaces are eight areas known as sliders.
Starting and finishing laps
Each player's starting circle sits beside the fifth space from that player's corner. At the beginning of the game, your three pieces are placed in the starting circle. Whenever a player's piece is kicked, it returns to the starting circle, no matter where it was before.
The finish lane is made up of four finish squares, beginning at the third space from each player's corner. Once a piece reaches this point, it must move onto the finish squares and finally into the finish lane. A piece that reaches the finish square has completed its journey. The first player to bring all of their pieces to the finish square wins Sorry! World – Board Game.
Sliders in Sorry! World – Board Game
The board features eight areas called sliders. Each slider has a start space, two middle spaces, and an end space. When a piece's card value lands it on a slider's start space, the slider activates and carries the piece three more spaces to the end space. If a piece lands on any other space of a slider, nothing happens.
Sliders in Sorry! World – Board Game can only be activated by pieces matching their color. The two sliders on the right side of the board, from your point of view, can be activated by your pieces. The two sliders on the opposite side belong to your opponent. The four sliders at the top and bottom of the board are dual-colored, so pieces from either player can activate them.
Note that a piece traveling along a slider can kick any other pieces resting on that slider's spaces, whether or not those pieces share its color.
Cards in Sorry! World – Board Game
Sorry! World – Board Game includes 13 cards in total. Every card shows its instruction in numbers and letters, and you simply move your pieces according to that instruction. There are also a few more complex double cards, described below:
- Split = 7/Move +7: Either move two pieces whose combined movement totals 7, or move one piece seven steps. If one piece reaches the finish line, the remaining moves must be made by another piece.
- Move -1/Move +10: Choose one of two options: move back one step or forward ten steps. If either option is invalid for every piece, you must use the other.
- Swap/Move +11: Either swap one of your pieces with an opponent's piece or move forward eleven steps. Keep in mind that only pieces on white squares of the board can be swapped.
- Sorry! Move +4 rule: You can either move a piece from your starting circle to the position of an opponent's piece and send it back, or simply advance your piece 4 steps forward. Keep in mind that your own piece has to be on the starting circle, and the target must sit on a white square. If you have no pieces on the start square, or your opponent has no pieces on a white square, you're required to advance 4 steps instead.
