After being conquered in the first game, it seemed to fall into a long, peaceful silence, but monsters and supernatural occurrences have now returned. After 1,000 years of slumber, the Spire has suddenly transformed, with a host of new monsters appearing and its inner areas becoming far more chaotic.

Gameplay
Slay the Spire 2 keeps the core traits of the series, blending roguelike progression with deck building and turn-based combat. Your mission remains the same: conquer the familiar Spire, with its many floors and rooms. After a thousand years, however, the tower looks very different, with surprises in its monsters, layouts, and rewards. You'll also find more events, new cards, and new heroes. Build your deck, choose your route, fight your battles, and claim victory.
How does combat work in Slay the Spire 2?
Battles begin the moment you run into a monster while choosing your next step. From there, you fight in turns using your deck. Each turn, you draw five cards, which may be attack, defense, or effect cards. You can play as many cards as you want, as long as you have enough energy to pay for them.
Strategy is central here, from managing your energy carefully to deciding the order in which you play your cards. Your deck's strength matters a great deal, too. Keep in mind that each floor of the Spire ends with a boss, and there are several routes leading to it. Your health also won't regenerate on its own once you've been injured, so choose your moments carefully and look for ways to recover.
Randomized map
The Spire is known for its enigmatic structure, which keeps shifting. Each time you fall in Slay the Spire 2 and start a new run, the map is reshuffled and generated anew. This keeps every climb feeling fresh. And if luck is on your side, you might stumble upon a route with fewer monsters that is easier to conquer.
Watch the map closely, since it displays a number of symbols you should recognize. Each one is clearly labeled, including:
- Enemy: common monsters.
- Elite: stronger, elite foes.
- Treasure: holds plenty of valuable rewards.
- Merchant: a place to spend your earned gold on buying and selling items.
- Unknown: a mysterious location filled with unpredictable, random encounters.
- Rest: a safe spot to recover your strength.
Building your deck
According to the developers, you'll be able to play at least five characters, including returning favorites like the Ironclad, Silent, and Defect, along with newcomers such as the Necrobinder. Each character starts with a unique deck and a distinct fighting style, so the way you build your deck will vary depending on who you choose.
There's only one real path to a stronger deck: fight and explore. Defeat monsters to earn new cards and gold, search Treasure Rooms for surprises, and visit Merchant Rooms to trade cards for gold. With some luck, you may even uncover rarer cards. Above all, shape your deck around your playstyle and your chosen character.
