Lost in the castle of the God of Death
Using only three eerie colors, white, black and red, Silent Citadel creates a chilling atmosphere from the very first screen. The story follows you and your adventurous friends. Driven by curiosity, your group once got caught in a storm and stumbled into a strange, dark castle.
Here, you and your team were separated. You can no longer communicate with each other or find any trace of them. You must find a way to survive and escape this castle on your own, without the help of any companions.
After wandering for a while, you realize this castle is the home of the God of Death. Each day they roam the world harvesting the souls of the dead, and each night they gather here to rest and prepare for the next harvest. Anyone who comes face to face with Death, meaning there is no way back, pays with their life, and you are no exception.
So, to escape this mysterious castle, you must do everything possible to defend yourself. Avoid being discovered by Death, and once spotted, hold your ground against every wave of their attacks. This is how the defensive battle in Silent Citadel begins.
Find an empty room and start defending
Every night, when the castle gate locks, your task in Silent Citadel is to find an empty room. Claim a bed in it, harness the room's full power, and build a clever defense system.
It is this system that will help you drive away the approaching Death. For details on how the system is built, see the next sections of this review.
Control your character to build defense towers
Simply touch the screen and move one finger to fully control your character and start building your defenses.
Use bricks to construct a turret, a hammer to create a reaper, and metal to reinforce the door leading into your room. When Death appears, the door is your first layer of protection. If they break through, they must face the powerful reaper and turret you just built. Hopefully, these layers of defense will keep you safe through the night.
Defenses must be constantly upgraded
While you focus on building defenses, Death will hold back. But the next night, they will return in larger numbers. To withstand them, you must constantly gather resources from the room and work hard to upgrade each of your defenses. This balanced system of new survival chances helps you reach the end of the game and gives you time to find a way out of the castle.
Buy more rooms for stronger defense skills
Each night you survive, the game rewards you with a gold coin. Use this gold to unlock the next empty room. Every room offers a fresh supply of resources, items, and tools to help you build new defensive strongholds.
Unlock more rooms, defense tactics, and survival methods. Your survival skills grow along the way, even as Death gathers in greater and greater numbers outside.
Play as the victim or the Reaper
Beyond the story mode, which follows the survival defense situation described above, Silent Citadel offers several other game modes so players can enjoy the game in their own way. In particular, the Grim Reaper mode lets you become a fearsome Grim Reaper. Instead of hiding and defending against Death every night, you now take the reverse role as a hunter of human souls.
Find a way to counter the defensive strategies of the adventurers sneaking into the castle and overturn all their clever building plans. Harvest as many souls as possible to become the most sinister Grim Reaper in the castle. With enough courage, you can eliminate everyone lost in this place.
