When did you last play a truly minimalist adventure game? After long sessions of intense role-playing battles or firefights on the battlefield, it's time to slow down, explore, and conquer the pyramids.

Ancient Treasure Hunt Goal

Pyramid Quest is essentially a short journey through the pyramids, where you overcome every dangerous trap on your way to uncovering ancient treasures.

Before reaching the treasure, though, you'll need to open a series of doors that lead to different chambers of the pyramid.

To unlock the door at the end of each scene, you must collect all 3 artifacts belonging to the Pharaohs of the past within that scene. Once you match these pieces, the door opens automatically and carries you to the next level.

Scattered along the way are small treasures (not the great treasure mound you're searching for, of course) containing Diamonds and Coins. By actively exploring, overcoming obstacles and enemies, collecting these items, and hunting for artifacts, you'll gradually unlock new skills for your character.

These skills mainly help you survive the perilous pyramid and reach the ultimate prize: the precious Giant Treasure.

Conquering the Pyramid Is No Easy Task

Ancient pyramids are notorious for being full of deadly traps, and Pyramid Quest proves that reputation well deserved.

You'll constantly face pitfalls, obstacles, and unpredictable hazards on every side. A single fall can cost you a lot of health and be hard to recover from. To get past these obstacles, the ideal mindset is calm and decisive: stop at the right moment, move at the right moment, and stay cautious yet agile. These hazards aren't always stationary either; some move like intricate machine systems built into the pyramid. Only fearless and nimble adventurers will make it through.

Beyond traps, road obstacles, and tricky terrain, you'll also meet countless enemies: witches, wizards, ancient mummies, and more. Each enemy type comes in several levels, with different movement patterns and attacks. Things are manageable when they appear one at a time, as in the first few scenes. But when they gather in numbers and search around for you, the danger multiplies, especially with countless traps waiting nearby. Getting through these situations is no easy feat, and the challenge steadily grows as you push deeper into the pyramids in search of treasure.

Among the common traps in Pyramid Quest are tunnels, boulders, darts, sharp iron spikes, and deep water pits. Enemies come in many forms too: beyond the powerful characters mentioned above, there are unpredictable creatures such as scorpions, rattlesnakes, spiders, and bats. Stay alert, because they will take turns coming after you and tearing you apart, even though you might be tempted to scoff since the first few scenes seem far too easy.

What Do You Need to Win?

Each level begins with 4 hearts for your character. Every time you hit an obstacle or an enemy, you lose one heart, and once your hearts run out, you die. On levels where hearts appear somewhere, grab them right away to boost your chances of survival. Be careful, too: jumping from a high place down to a much lower one also costs you one heart, so keep that in mind.

To win through each increasingly tense screen, you need to master the controls and your character as quickly as possible.

Fortunately, Pyramid Quest uses a classic console-style control scheme that makes it easy for every player to pick up. A navigation button sits on the left, and a skill button sits on the right for jumping and throwing your sword.

By combining these two virtual buttons, you'll steer your character through a variety of traps and fight enemies when you encounter them.

When you need to get past enemies, you can either jump over their heads or throw your sword. Jumping carries the risk of not clearing them high enough, and if you collide with an enemy, the game is over. Throwing a sword requires having one, and swords can be found on each level. Unused swords carry over to the next stage, with a maximum storage of 4 swords.
