Night in the Woods is an episodic puzzle game from the studio Infinite Fall, built around non-linear storytelling, a mysterious mood, and an art style that stands out in its genre. The story takes place in Possum Springs, a sleepy backwater town that keeps some very unusual residents out of sight: people with animal traits. Cat faces, crocodile snouts, and bear ears are all part of the everyday scene. The townsfolk may look a little eerie at first glance, but they are warm-hearted and face life's hardships with remarkable courage.
Atmosphere, Gameplay, and Events
Night in the Woods pulls you into its world right away, with no sign-up or SMS verification needed. It skips a long intro and never stops to describe its surroundings. Instead, it hands you a virtual joystick and lets you start exploring. Oddly enough, this feels a lot like a real adventure, where every step may lead somewhere unexpected and every detail is something you uncover yourself.
Even so, Night in the Woods (available on both iOS and Android) doesn't keep you stumbling around in the dark. Now and then time slows down and written details appear on screen. The story is told mostly through text, with information recorded in a diary and shown in on-screen dialogue.
