Neuphoria is a blend of elements that feel strange on their own. You won't have seen a design this unusual in any other game: an astronaut sprouting Lovecraftian monster tentacles, a pretty girl with a sculpted body whose shoulders and cheeks are pocked with holes like a faulty wool doll, and a ballet dancer with graceful moves who wears a triangular head.

If you don't usually enjoy strange, uncanny visuals, you may find it hard to get into the game at first. Give it another chance, though. Beneath that unconventional exterior lies a unique real-time PVP combat system that may well win you over.

Where the dreamland fell apart

Neuphoria presents a poetic, magical world washed in soft pink and purple hues. That land was peaceful until the incident. The Dark Lord has risen, breaking his thousand-year chains and emerging from the darkness. He quickly rallied his forces and sent his demonic minions and monsters to every corner of the land to attack its innocent residents.

Besides his long-serving minions, the Dark Lord also bends the weaker creatures around him to his will, manipulating their minds and stripping away their free will. Before long he commanded tens of thousands of dark mercenaries, whose cruelty rivals that of the demons themselves.

With the Dark Lord's awakening, the dreamy pink land collapsed in an instant. Many places have been consumed by flames or utterly transformed by the tide of dangerous creatures his manipulation has unleashed.

The kingdom was nearly broken. Unable to keep watching everything crumble into ruin, the king quietly gathered his forces. Oddball heroes from every corner of the world and every race answered his call and set out on a journey to defeat evil.

You are one of them. With your brave companions, venture deep into the now very dangerous lands of the kingdom. Fight strange monsters and search for the truth behind the Dark Lord's sudden resurrection, because something terrible may lie ahead. Do you have the courage to press on, or will you stop once you have completed your journey? Your actions and decisions as you play will answer that question for everyone.

Team-based, tactical combat

As the leader of the heroes, you start with the first few options available in the game. This basic starting squad is not strong, but it gives you a foundation of collective strength at the most primitive level. Use it to fight monsters across the hexagonal battlefield, a layout typical of real-time strategy games.

Defeating enemies earns you experience points and bonuses. Some lands are generous and hide treasures and useful item rewards. Spend your money on equipment and upgrades for your team, combine them with items you find along the way, and you'll steadily boost the strength of every hero.

Each hero earns their own experience points in battle. As points accumulate, each character can level up and grow significantly stronger, and new combat skills unlock along the way. Every hero has a set of parameters, and when they level up you choose which stats to enhance. Those choices partly determine each character's future path.

Make smart decisions about stats, equipment and helmets that suit each character's inherent traits, and you can maximize that hero's power. Over time you'll build a perfect squad of nearly invincible monstrous warriors.

Upgrade items

Every item you collect or buy with money can be upgraded individually. Attach small modules to them, or combine similar items to create more advanced ones. Once equipped, an upgraded item makes its hero stronger and more effective in combat, which in turn greatly improves your fighting power and chances of winning.

Adjust your squad to fit the situation

If all of the above feels familiar, the deeper strategy is what will keep you hooked for a long time. On each land's multi-hex map, enemies appear in different formations: in packs, in groups, or alone. Sometimes they gather in one corner, and sometimes they spread out in every direction. Monsters may come as a single type or as a mix of many strange kinds working together to harass you.

Every battle unfolds in real time across a changing monster ecosystem, so players must be ready to reshape their formation on the fly. You can switch and adjust at any moment during combat, and the more adaptable and unpredictable your tactics, the better your odds of victory.

Real-Time PVP Combat

This world is full of more than just monsters. Plenty of villains disguise themselves as heroes to carry out their dark plans, and every leader pursues goals, convictions, and ambitions of their own.

Trust no one. You must keep building your army's strength and stay on guard, ready to clash with rival hero teams at any moment. Your ultimate aim is to defend and grow your stronghold while gathering as many resources as possible to flourish in this new land.

When maintaining your stronghold, players can take whatever approach suits their current strength. Boost your defense stat to hold firm under attack, or lay down a web of traps across your territory and use low-cost skills to take out every intruder. You might even secretly siphon resources from other players.
