The story of Miwa: The Sacred Fox begins right after the yearly Kanaloa festival. As the last rays of sunlight faded on the final night of celebrations, the villagers were getting ready to head home after a long night of fun. Suddenly, from the distant ocean, a group of figures emerged from the darkness, likely servants of the Eternal Night, slowly advancing toward the shore. Their approach was accompanied by the eerie clatter of conch shells and a chilling night wind.
Wherever these dark figures passed, death spread and sickness followed, plunging the people into panic. Worse still, the darkness left light with nowhere to hide. The entire village was swiftly engulfed and never saw the sun again.
You play as Shima Nobu, one of the few lucky survivors of this catastrophe. Refusing to wait passively for fate to decide, you resolve to find a way to bring light back to the village, cleanse its people of sickness and darkness, and restore the peaceful, carefree days of the past.
Fortunately, fate has not forsaken the villagers, and you are not alone on your journey. Amid the chaos, a mysterious sacred fox named Miwa appears, explaining what has happened and offering to be your loyal guide. Together, the two set out to find light for the village, and the adventure begins from the very first page.
Explore a magical world straight out of Japanese mythology
Even though they are shrouded in darkness, many areas of this land possess a haunting beauty. Venture through deep, dark caves where the air feels so heavy it's hard to breathe, wander through the ruins of ancient cities, or follow mechanical roads blended with the magical scenery typical of Japan. Rows of cherry trees line the roadside, and the scent of blossoms drifts on the wind despite the surrounding gloom…
Though rendered in 2D pixel art, the scenery in Miwa: The Sacred Fox is strikingly soothing. The game is accompanied by soft, rolling music inspired by ancient Japanese melodies, interspersed with sounds that occasionally startle you. Gameplay

The two heroes have distinct combat mechanics, movement styles, appearances, and personalities. As you explore, fight, and overcome obstacles, you can switch between them at any moment to make the most of each character's strengths and solve challenges as they arise.
For example, when crossing a deep stream, Miwa's agility and graceful, almost flying leaps will help you clear the gap safely. In close-quarters battles against heavily armored enemies, on the other hand, the warrior Nobu will be your dependable choice.
Level up your spirit
By conquering many tough stages and defeating a long line of fierce foes, you'll grow your spirit and earn experience points by collecting plenty of health orbs.
Beyond the 15 main bosses, spread across 15 levels that follow each story chapter, you'll also battle countless henchmen just as ruthless and crafty. Once you've beaten every one of them, the rewards waiting for you are well worth the effort.
