Overview
The Leaf Spy Pro application allows drivers of the Nissan Leaf electric car to track live battery performance and comprehensive onboard diagnostics right from an Android device paired with an approved ELM327 OBDII Bluetooth adapter, giving you instant access to detailed metrics normally exclusive to service technicians.
Because of recent manufacturing downgrades and cost cuts, numerous inexpensive ELM327 OBDII Bluetooth dongles manufactured in Asia—often reporting firmware version 2.1—fail to operate with the Leaf. Additionally, the previously favored Konnwei KW902 Bluetooth OBDII unit is no longer suggested due to a circulating faulty batch. These defective units can temporarily short out your Nissan Leaf's CAN bus system (or any vehicle CAN network), though disconnecting the hardware generally avoids permanent harm.
Starting from build 0.39.97, LeafSpy Pro includes verified compatibility with two Bluetooth 4.x Low Energy (LE) devices, with the Amazon-available LELink model serving as the primary recommended pick. Opting for Bluetooth 4.x LE offers seamless operation without manual pairing while significantly cutting down energy draw on both your Android phone and your car. LELink comes highly recommended and functions seamlessly on iOS installations of LeafSpy Pro as well.
