The money you gather is used to set up bases where different forces can be summoned. Once a base is built, a steady stream of characters keeps appearing, up to a set limit. It's a compelling battle system that's hard to ignore.

You steer your character with simple swipes and drags, moving freely to safe spots on the screen to arrange your formations and join the fight. Certain locations also let you activate special features, each costing a set amount of money. It's up to you to decide which priorities will help you defeat the enemy.

DEFEAT POWERFUL ENEMIES

At the start of Army Commander, you receive a sum of gold and carry it along as you advance to the next location. You can spend that gold on new bases, and once they're built, you no longer have to worry about summoning fresh warriors. Characters keep appearing from each base, and the number of units grows over time so you're always ready for battle.

When your unit count is full, the battle begins and both forces clash. You carry a gun to take out enemies, but you have to stay alive because you're a key character. You also gather the loot the enemy drops and reinvest it into growing your army. You can move in on each group of enemies to destroy them one by one.

You don't need to panic about wiping out every enemy in one pass, since your unit count is limited. Once a battle ends, you return to the area you've taken and wait for the next wave to fully gather before starting another fight. As each enemy unit falls, the zone changes to match its color over time, until only a single flagpole remains.

ACCESS TO DIFFERENT BATTLEFIELDS

You'll encounter a variety of battles, and to reach a new location in Army Commander, you must first capture the flag from the previous battle. Specifically, you need to collect enough to claim that flag, then spend the money to boost your unit count. Once you finish, you move on to a new location where fresh elements appear to help you eliminate enemies more quickly.

Some levels introduce a powerful new tactic for quickly wiping out enemies: the atomic bomb. This bomb is pre-placed, and you must walk to its switch to arm it. After a few seconds of waiting, some enemy units vanish completely from the map. The enemy force is weakened at that point, giving you the chance to push in and destroy them faster.

Players won't be able to take their eyes off the battles and the locations they need to capture:

• You'll be taken to a location packed with enemies guarding a flagpole, the objective you must seize to complete the level.
• Your main character collects money and heads to the right spot to build a base or activate certain features.
• Warriors keep appearing until your squad reaches its limit, and you decide when to launch the attack.
• The fight only ends once you've captured the area, destroyed every enemy, and built up enough strength to reach the flagpole.
• On certain levels, you'll find pre-placed equipment, such as atomic bombs, that helps you overcome large numbers of enemies.
