Natural catastrophes, food shortages, a lack of supplies, and countless mutant creatures have appeared everywhere. The surviving 10% of humanity is fragile, and staying alive has become harder than dying ever was.

In this situation, whether you consider yourself lucky or unlucky, you are one of the survivors. The days ahead will be a constant test of stamina and nerve, and you'll need to use every life skill you have to extend your survival in the brutal environment around you. Are you ready to step into this merciless world?

Facing countless hardships

The challenges in this world are everywhere. Food is so scarce that finding something to eat and drink each day is a struggle. With few materials on hand, building a sturdy shelter and base is constantly blocked by obstacles. Weapons are rare, and the only scrap available is metal debris. You'll need to rely on your clever crafting skills to turn scraps into useful items and put them to use before it's too late.

And it's not only a shortage of supplies. Dangerous threats lurk all around. The air may be contaminated with radiation, the weather can shift without warning, or a simple illness can claim a fragile life if no cure is found in time.

Even more menacing are the mutant creatures roaming the land. They were once the gentle animals and plants of Earth, but after radiation exposure and living in a deadly atmosphere, they have transformed into ferocious, giant monsters. You'll face all of these dangers at once, in many different situations, at every step of your path to survival.

Opportunities still exist

Perhaps some higher power has not fully wiped out human life and still wants to give humanity another chance. The proof is that danger and destruction are everywhere, yet countless supplies, items, and resources have also been left behind. The more areas you explore, the more chances you'll find to survive, both for yourself and for any lucky allies you meet.

You might stumble upon an unexpected healing kit or a hidden stash containing advanced weapons. You could also come across a pile of resources, tools for building shelters, or an area rich in food that's perfect for storing. AfterDoom encourages you to travel widely and explore thoroughly, because the more ground you cover, the better your odds of survival.

Making difficult choices

During your survival, exploration, and combat, you'll sometimes be forced into tough decisions. Should you rescue another survivor while you're still struggling to find food and water? Should you venture into a narrow, dark alley that looks very dangerous but may hold valuable items, or take the wide, empty road where you're unlikely to find anything? Every choice you make could lead your character toward a different ending in AfterDoom.

Battles can erupt without warning

They often arrive when you least expect them, just when you think you're at peace and safe. In every situation, the only way to survive over the long haul is to be prepared with the right fighting skills and weapons.

At the same time, keep working to build your strength and endurance. By doing so, no matter who the new enemy is or how it attacks, you'll be able to hold out for a while and find a way to use the environment to escape a trap.

Fighting skills and weapons aren't enough on their own. You also need a fire to keep you warm, a few trusted allies, and a solid base to return to. If you stay persistent, you can gather, find, and recruit these things while exploring the world described above.

Learn new knowledge and abilities

The freedom to study and practice without limits is a new feature of this survival game. In AfterDoom, nothing is out of reach for your character. And every time you learn a new skill, your chances of surviving grow.

You gather seeds and plant them to grow your own food. Books teach you crafting and building, and you collect more resources and items to construct your own base. Over time you keep crafting tools, which can later be turned into useful weapons. Once your skills grow, you can make nearly anything with your own hands, and that is the most reliable way to keep yourself alive.

Build a Community

Rescue other survivors, bring them back to your base, and assign each person a job that suits their expertise. You'll fight side by side, live together, and sharpen your abilities a little more every day. Little by little, a new community of survivors takes shape. You grow stronger, sometimes overpowering the enemies out there, and eventually even the toughest environmental challenges won't scare you. From here, a new future for humanity may begin.

AfterDoom is a 2D game with a fairly simple design and a vertical screen, yet it captures every aspect of post-apocalyptic survival. There's a fair amount of reading because the game packs in plenty of detail, but it makes for a meaningful survival journey.
